Centre for Reading, Writing and Media
Research and development of a variety of activities fostering language development
The Centre for Reading, Writing and Media researches reading, writing and media at the Institute for Educational Research and Development, which is part of the School for Teacher Education FHNW. Activities undertaken at the Centre aim to provide children, young people and adults with support in the following areas:
- Improving language skills,
- Deepening the emotional access to language, and
- Expanding the range of everyday linguistic activities.
To that end, research projects are conducted at the interface between education, language and the acquisition of language. The research undertaken at the Centre embraces collaboration with national and international partners. It centres – from a technical and education policy standpoint – on core themes, such as the effectiveness of teaching or educational standards.
At the same time, research results are leveraged for practical implementation through the creation of models and materials designed to develop language competences. In this connection, the Centre offers opportunities for the continuing education of teachers, services in the realm of school development, and the development of research-driven teaching materials.
Specialists in research and tuition work in close partnership with each other on well-grounded research as well as science-based didactics.
The Centre for Reading can look back on more than a decade of numerous research and development projects, conferences, workshops and other events. On the occasion of the ten year celebration these events were arranged in an interactive timeline.
